There was a premiere in Dallas last night, at the Angelkica Theatre, for the new movie Boondock Saints II. Before the movie, the promoters introduced Troy Duffy (writer/director), Sean Patrick Flannery, and Norman Reedus. They said a few words about how the film got produced and finally put out for release, some ten years after the first one. When the movie was finished, there was a 30 minute Q&A session with all of them and then an after-party at an Irish pub next door. The guys were set up at a table signing autographs and generally talking with folks. The whole "scene" was fantastic and the movie was awesome. If you liked the first film, I think you'll enjoy the second as well.
Troy Duffy was talking about the average dollar/per screen and this was the deciding factor as to how many screens it would be initially released. The film jumped from 18 screens, to 60+ screens, and now it will be opening in over 240 screens. The more publicity, the more the film will most likely be pushed into your area.
You will enjoy this film.

Emails, conference calls, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Forums, blogs, etc… there is so much social interaction going on, but none of it occurring face to face with another human. I'm guilty of it too but when I'm in the office, I try to walk to my boss or co-worker's desk instead of emailing them, especially when they're only three feet from me. But other members in my office would prefer to never see anyone. It's rather odd that we've become this way. Don't get me wrong; I understand the convenience of using email and texting, etc. It just seems like we have become so dependent on these methods that we don't need to see other people, but I feel human contact is still very important. I know I'm guilty of saying, "I hate people" sometimes, but if all my interaction with others was cut off, I would hate it and probably digress into something unrecognizable. Just my thoughts today. | Another Blog? |
|
Sunday

So I'm finally getting off my butt and developing my website again. The basic reason why I wanted to create it was to have a nice site with a nice place for my blog to live. I'll have an RSS feed link on there so it can be placed in LiveJournal or read/followed through any other RSS feed follower. Getting folks to subscribe is a whole other issue, but I've been putting this off for some time.
I started working on this yesterday and decided to integrate Wordpress on my Go Daddy domain. That in itself was quite an ordeal as I had to upgrade some settings on my Go Daddy account before I could upload the Wordpress software. Now that that part is complete, I have the tricky prospect of figuring out how to use Wordpress in the first place - yeah.
Anyway, hopefully the site will come along nicely and I will let everyone know when it's done. If you feel inclined to follow, I would greatly appreciate it. The other obvious point in doing this is the fact that my desire to blog more has greatly increased. I post rarely here on LiveJournal, but if I had a shiny new place on which I could place my thoughts and ideals, then I would do so more frequently.
So the adventure begins.

| Torchwood is so good! |

If you're not watching Torchwood, you're missing one of the best programs imported from the BBC. As much as the show pisses me off sometimes, with it's high mortality rate of main characters, the interconnectivity that Russell T Davies (the writer/creator) creates with the characters, and especially Capt. Jack Harkness, is fantastic. Children of Earth will be releasing on DVD & Blu-Ray soon; I encourage you all to watch it if you missed it on TV.
For those that don't know, Torchwood is a spin-off series from Doctor Who, which aired some five years ago. The chartacter of Capt. Jack Harkness first premiered on that show and was later moved to his own show.

Danielle and I got back this evening from seeing a screening of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and may I say it was amazing! David Yates, who directed Order of the Phoenix and will be following up with Deathly Hallows, did a fantastic job of capturing this film into (what Danielle called) 'the closest adaptation of one of the books yet.'
In it's usual fashion Harry Potter is back and more grand than ever. The visuals were stunning in themselves, but this film carried a darkness to it that some of the other films didn't quite reach. And whilst that darkness was expected, it was wonderfully intermixed with some very funny scenes and the comedy was just enough to help lift your spirits once more. This enthralled me nicely and made me hunger to see more, even when the final credits began to roll.
This was a wonderful night and I look forward to seeing this film, at least one more time, though I suspect it will be more than than that.

So I thought it might be fun if my girlfriend (Danielle) and I went on a little Geocaching treasure hunt today. I was listening to the AppSlappy Podcast and Scott Johnson was talking about a Geocaching app he downloaded, and how much fun he and his family had. I mentioned this to Danielle and she was all for it.
Here is where it goes horribly wrong...
We decided to do it on a 100 degree plus day in Texas, with no water, no supplies, merely my iPhone (with the app installed) and a well-planned idea to have lots of fun. Mind you, this is still within the city limits of Arlington, TX so we're not in the middle on nowhere, but the coordinates did take us off the beaten path and into a wooded area away from everyone.
The terrain was a little rougher than what I expected and to make a long story short, we didn't find the cache, we both got way too hot, and had to stop and control our breathing so as not to pass out from heat exhaustion. We finally did make it out of the woods and back home, after we were covered in scratches, thorns & stickers, and an over-confidence in our ability to "brave the elements." I'm sure we'll do this again as the idea was loads of fun, but we'll certainly plan better next time.
The moral of the story is: bring a good supply of life-saving stash, when you Geocache.

So another season of Scarborough Faire has come to an end and it was a great season. The weather did not cooperate that well at all however; this season was quite wet. Despite that, there was good food, good friends, a lot of laughter, and of course we had the heat. I'm not sure what else to say other than I do so love being a Musketeer and being involved with this wonderful Faire each year. In addition to being a Musketeer, I am also a member of the Scarborough Royal Guard and I have grown closer to numerous members of the Guard as well, and it's been a joy.
Here you will find a "few" pics from this season, so enjoy and Huzzah! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2010526&id=1372953500&l=f24d90f120

I find myself missing my mother more than normal today. She died in Nov, 2007 and whilst missing her today is obvious to most, it's more that I miss her joking about today. She would always take today to the extreme and demand to be waited on hand and foot, in a joking manner of course. "Moms rule, kids drool," that is what she would say sometimes. I'm not trying to bring folks down today, just merely remember to hug your mom today. Posted via LiveJournal.app.

There was one confirmed death today from Swine Flu, but according to CDC estimates 36000 deaths occur annually from regular influenza, ergo 98 deaths occurred today that we'll most likely not hear about. Why doesn't the media report that instead of spreading their own kind of disease and scaring a lot of the public. Schools close and sports events are canceled due to this!? I want to see the hype over the regular flu; or else please shut the hell up!

I live my life now in 140 characters. Yes, I am now one of those tweeters so I find myself doing that more and more. In addition to my Facebook page, and the restriction of characters allowed there, Twitter has become a very interesting passion for me right now. That being said, if you want to follow me: http://twitter.com/Jonus.
As for other events in my life, let's do this in a bullet point fashion as not to bore you kind folks too much; so here goes. - Got a new job after Circuit City went under and I am now working for a Private Investigator's office.
- Scarborough Faire has started back again so I've been very happy with that and attending as often as I can. This will be my sixth year with the Guard and the Musketeers. Here is a nice little pic of me and Danielle from last weekend:
 - Had a little issue with my back over the last week and had minor surgery to have a cyst removed - not fun.
- Went to a Sci-Fi Expo last weekend and met some cool celebs: Michael Hogan, Mark Sheppard, Tony Todd, and Glenn Morshower [check your IMDB]. The line for M. Hogan was long so I didn't get to speak to him that much, but the other three folks were very accomodating. M. Sheppard and G. Morshower were both fantastic and just a hoot. Let me throw in a pic of me with Col. Tigh though:
So there you go. You've now been updated on some of the events in my life. Thanks for reading and I now return you to your regulalry scheduled and more interesting posts. Gone.

Yesterday was the final day for my Circuit City store. We closed the doors at 8:30pm last night, for the final time. Most all the stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area closed yesterday, and the company as a whole will be shutting down by March 31 (except for the Canadian affiliates).
My feeling on the whole issue is mixed. Part of me is sad: I had been with the company for almost 2 1/2 years and it was stable, and enjoyable for the most part, employment. Another part of me is glad that it's over and I can actually relax now. The last month or so has been hard on all the employees because we knew the inevitable day was coming. It was starting to wear on us all.
So now I am one of the people who has been laid off. I do have a fall back new job persay. I have interviewed with a company and they are offering me a position when I'm ready to take it, but it's not my first choice. I'm still going to search the market and try to find something that I might enjoy, or would be a better fit for me, before I chose this other option. But for now, I'm going to enjoy a little time off, and spend more evenings with Danielle, so I feel lucky.

I have been a fan of Dr Pepper for quite some time. Considering I live in Texas, I think it's almost a requirement to like it. More specifically, I have been drinking cherry vanilla Dr Pepper for about three years.
I was at the grocery store the other day and discovered something new and glorious:

I asked the Dr Pepper rep about it and he informed me it was on a limited run so they could try it out. I love this new taste so I had to buy a few 12 packs to make sure I had some before it was gone.
Tasty tasty cherry Dr Pepper.

| My life in HD. |

Danielle and I finally have HD! I know this may not impress most people but I am so ecstatic I am beside myself.
Most of you know that I work for Circuit City, so I am surrounded by over 50 high definition televisions five days a week, but I didn't own one of them...until now.
Since the company is liquidating, we are selling everything in our store. We've had a 42" LCD HDTV in our break room for about eight months. It's a Toshiba 42LN167 [I'll let you look up the specs if you're so inclined] and it was not in inventory, so the main liquidator decided to sell it to me as a "fixture item" and let me have it for a mere $150!!
As I said, I'm surrounded by HD all day long, but having one in your own home, and sitting on your couch and watching what you want, all in high definition - bloody brilliant.

Even though I had to work today, Danielle took a trip to Dallas Comicon for a fun day of fun-ness. She got some nice swag and some comics of hers signed, but she also brought back some things for me.
One was a cool Dread Pirate Roberts t-shirt from Pegasus Publishing, and the other was an extremely cool piece of artwork by Tim Bradstreet, signed no less! This was a piece of promotional work he did for the game Vampire: The Masquerade, Bloodlines. It's bloody fantastic and I am so thankful for my awesome honey.

So it was announced today that Circuit City will liquidate all assets, which means stores as well. For little ol' me, that means I'll most likely have my job through mid-March or so. It's been a good little over two year run, but now I guess it's on to bigger and better things... I hope. Being as I am an assistant manager, I may actually get a severance package but that has yet to be determined. Posted via LiveJournal.app.

But not for the reason you may think. Everything between me and Danielle is fine but we are both sick right now with the plague and for the last three nights I have been snoring horribly. Danielle and I have been together for almost four years and she knows I don't snore, but last night she had some fun and recorded me...holy hell!
It was to the point that when I awoke from one of my many restless slumbers, I found that she was not beside me, but on the couch in the living room, trying to get some peace from the monster that lives in my nasal passages. Needless to say, I decided to spare her the continuous bouts of noise pollution and I volunteered to sleep on the couch until this crap passes.
I'm sorry sweetie.

Okay, I know there is something wrong with me
because I decided to make a seven page excel spreadsheet (a page for each night of the week), displaying
all the TV shows that will be coming on this fall, as things come off
hiatus. That is a sure sign that I am addicted to TV a little too
much. At least I am not alone, as three other folks are using my
guide to plan their TV watching schedule, as well as planning on nights
when we can all get together and watch certain shows together.
Regardless, I am ready for the shows (new and old)
to start. Remote in hand, popcorn at the ready, soda standing
by...let's veg!

"Wanna feel really small? Check this out; it's amazing!
Florida State
University in Tallahassee, Florida has put up a very interesting page on
their site. It begins as a view of the Milky Way Galaxy viewed from
a distance of 10 million light years and then zooms in towards Earth
in powers of ten: 10 million, to one million, to 100,000 light years and
then it finally reaches a large Oak tree. If ever there was a witness to
creation, these folks have captured it for our viewing pleasure!
Once
you click on the site, the software does all the work. Sit back and
imagine how perfect our universe is! You can play it forward and
backward to be amazed over and over. At the end it says AUTO....click on
that and review the process in reverse!"

Tonight marks a dark day in the end of a franchise:
Star Trek concludes it's television run this evening with a two-part
episode of Enterprise.
In my opinion, as with the other Star Trek series', it took the third
season to finally spark an interest in the show, unfortunately,
Paramount and the execs there already made up their mind and canceled
the show.
After 18 years and four syndicated shows (since the
Original series went off the air), there will be no more Star Trek on
T.V. (thank goodness for Spike TV).
